Day #57 Twirlie Wheeee – The Sequel
by Sara le Roux, Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District
If you remember my post back on Day #10 (wow that seems ages ago now!) we created a lovely ribbon stick out of things that we just had around the house.
Well…..the stick is no more….it got into a sibling stand-off and didn’t survive the battle 😦
Parenting lesson learnt! Two of anything that is likely to cause a complete meltdown – within reason of course!
So, whilst I was browsing ideas of activities that we could do something caught my eye that would be a fab replacement for our twirly toy….budget friendly, easy to make two of – and guaranteed to occupy my little ones for AGES!
What You’ll Need
- Curtain Rings x 2 – we used wooden ones that are 5cm in diameter (with the metal parts removed)
- Ribbons – 6 or 7 different colours/patterns – whatever you have in your stash but probably no wider than 1cm – lengths of 90 cm x 2 (for the two separate rings)
Such a simple activity with really fantastic results…..
We looped the ribbons through the rings until they were halfway through. We then tied a double knot in the ribbon so that we were left with two ‘tails’ from the wooden rings.
We repeated this until we had used all of our ribbon up – Boo seemed to prefer just watching the activity today but Izzy was happy to help by choosing the ribbons and then passing them to Mummy 🙂
When all the ribbons were on our rings we passed the ribbon ends over a lighter – VERY quickly and out of the reach of tiny inquisitive hands. This sealed the ends of the ribbon so that they didn’t fray whilst they were being played with.
DONE! Twirlie Whirly Dancing Ribbons!!
Boo definitely perked up at this point…..I’d like to share some photos with you but every one of them was a total blur again!
I did manage to catch a few of Izzy though 🙂
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Activity Time: Only finally put down when it was ‘bubbles time’
Safety Tip: Due to the finished length of the ribbons, please do not leave your child alone whilst they are playing with the ribbon rings
Day #57 DONE! 43 to go!
