Day #11 Bendy Beading
by Sara le Roux, Owner and Inspirer at The Creation Station Penistone and District
Something I discovered recently is that if you give a pre-schooler some pipe cleaners, beads and (or) chopped up straws they will probably sit and play for AGES!
So when Izzy was feeling a bit grumpy today (teething) I needed to find an activity that Boo could do which would still allow me to sit and cuddle my baby koala – this was definitely my solution.
What You’ll Need
- Pipe Cleaners
- Pony Beads – they have a much bigger hole making them easier for little fingers to thread
- Chopped up straws – just make sure that they are big enough to fit over the pipe cleaners
This activity is fairly straightforward and is probably something you could take with you if you were away from home and needed something ‘no mess’ – it’s great for developing motor skills too!
Put your beads and straws into a container and then give them to your little one to explore…….
The concentration on Boo’s face was really funny. He was getting really frustrated when the pipe cleaner missed the bead hole but he was certainly determined to finish the task.
Boo made a lovely length of beads and straws, insisting that Izzy and I join in with its creation. When we were done, he decided that it should actually be made into a bendy bracelet for Daddy!
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Activity Time: 15 minutes
Safety Tips: Don’t leave your child unsupervised whilst doing this activity unless you can be sure that they wouldn’t try to eat the beads or straw pieces.
This activity is not suitable for babies or small children
